How do I know that the sensor is working properly?

If you are located in Germany, you are wearing a Libre 3, whereas the rest of Europe is using a Libre 2.

Both sensors automatically transfer glucose readings every minute directly to your smartphone using the FreeStyle LibreLink app. For the Libre 2, scanning the sensor remains an option if desired.

If you wear a Libre 2 you can check by scanning with the FreeStyle LibreLink App. Open the FreeStyle LibreLink App and select "Scan Sensor" and simply hover your phone over the sensor. If for some reason the sensor isn’t working, the app will display an error message or give you a glucose reading value of 0.
