There are a few special considerations for obesity and lipedema:
Both conditions (obesity and lipedema) primarily affect fatty tissue. However, glucose measurement is not usually directly affected if the sensor is placed correctly. Nevertheless, there are a few factors that should be taken into account:
- Tissue changes:
Since CGM sensors measure in the subcutaneous tissue (in lipedema: increased accumulation of fatty tissue, especially on the legs and arms), a changed tissue structure in severely affected areas could slightly influence accuracy. - Blood circulation & lymph flow:
In advanced stages of lipedema, blood circulation may be restricted.
In rare cases, poorer microcirculation could affect glucose uptake in the tissue and lead to slightly delayed readings. - Sensor placement:
If a person with obesity or lipedema has very sensitive or hardened skin areas, it may be advisable to choose alternative placements for the sensor.
--> In most cases, lipedema and obesity do not have a major impact on CGM measurement. If there are any uncertainties, the treating physician can be consulted for advice, Hello Inside cannot guarantee the functioning in such cases.
