WHAT DOES FACE SCAN MEASURE?
A single scan takes about 30 seconds and gives you six insights:
Heart Rate
How fast your heart is beating (in BPM). A slightly elevated resting heart rate can indicate physical load, stress, or incomplete recovery.
Heart Rate Variability (HRV)
The variation in time between your heartbeats (in ms). Higher variability generally means your body is adapting well. Low HRV can suggest your body didn't fully recharge.
Respiratory Rate
How many breaths you take per minute. Your breathing rhythm reflects whether your body is in a calm or activated state.
Mental Stress Score
How much stress your nervous system is under (in %). Under stress, your heart beats faster and more uniformly — we detect that pattern.
Energy Balance
The interplay between your sympathetic nervous system (activity) and parasympathetic nervous system (recovery). A balanced score means both systems are working in harmony.
Sleep Quality Score
How well your body recovered overnight (in %). Poor sleep changes your heart rhythm in detectable ways — we pick up those patterns so you can connect how you slept to how you feel.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Face Scan uses a technology called rPPG (remote photoplethysmography). Here's the simple version:
1. With every heartbeat, blood flows through the tiny vessels beneath your skin.
2. This causes a very subtle color change on your face — invisible to the eye, but not to your camera.
3. Your camera detects these shifts in the red, green, and blue channels of the image.
4. Our software reads the pattern and turns it into health signals: heart rate, breathing rhythm, stress response, and more.
We focus on your forehead and cheeks — that's where blood vessels sit closest to the skin surface and the pulse is most visible.
TIPS FOR A GOOD SCAN
For the most accurate results:
- Distance: Sit about 40 cm (arm's length) from your camera.
- Lighting: Find good, even lighting — natural light, artificial light, or a mix all work.
- Position: Keep your face and upper body straight, centered in the frame.
- Stay still: Don't move during the 30-second measurement.
- Any camera works: Smartphone, laptop, or tablet.
The app checks the scan quality before starting. If something needs adjusting (position, lighting), you'll see instructions on screen.
HOW ACCURATE IS IT?
- The technology has been tested against medical-grade sensors.
- Algorithms are trained on over 1,000,000 data points.
- Validated across all skin tones and age groups.
- Accuracy improves over time as the system builds your personal baseline.
After your first few scans, the system establishes a baseline for your body. From there, it gets better at detecting changes and trends — not just single snapshots.
CAMERA PERMISSION
Face Scan needs access to your camera to work. If you skipped the permission step during setup:
1. Open your phone's Settings.
2. Find Hello Inside in your app list.
3. Enable Camera permission.
4. Go back to the app and try again.
If you chose "Continue without Face Scan" during onboarding, you can enable it later from the app's settings.
TROUBLESHOOTING
"Camera permission required"
Go to your phone's Settings > Hello Inside > enable Camera.
Scan keeps failing or restarting
Move to a brighter spot, hold still, and make sure your face is centered.
Results seem off
Make sure you're at rest (not right after exercise), in good lighting, and not moving.
Face Scan option not visible
Make sure your app is updated to the latest version.
